Continental Express/ExpressJet was at one time a wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Airlines, Inc. Continental Express/ExpressJet was formed through the merger of four separate commuter airlines Provincetown-Boston Airlines, Bar Harbor Airlines, Britt Airways and Rocky Mountain Airways. The combined company that became Continental Express/ExpressJet operated under the Britt Airways operating certificate until November 2011, at which time all ExpressJet operations became part of the Atlantic Southeast Airline certificate. Continental Express also served Continental's Denver and Guam hubs until the early 1990s. Continental Express was formed in 1987. In the 1990s the airline was headquartered Houston. In the past, Trans-Colorado, Royale, Air New Orleans, Mid-Pacific, City Express Southern Jersey Airways, Gull Air, Cape Air, CommutAir, Gulfstream Internatioal, Colgan Air, GP Express Airlines, American Eagle Airlines and SkyWest Airlines have operated aircraft using the Continental Express brand name. United Continental Holdings, Inc., originally UAL Corporation is the owner and operator of United Airlines. The company was renamed in May 2010 after acquiring Continental Airlines; the brand was dissolved in late 2011. The "Continental Express" brand has ceased operations and renamed as United Express after the merger.
